KIRI Engine Introduces Real-Time Photogrammetry with iOS 17's Enhanced Object Capture API

Leading the way in 3D scanning solutions, KIRI Innovations is delighted to unveil its latest enhancement to the KIRI Engine APP: the integration of iOS 17's improved Object Capture API. This revolutionary update, seamlessly incorporated into KIRI Engine version 2.10, facilitates real-time photogrammetry, exclusively available for iPhone Pro (12 and up) models, and sets a new benchmark in the world of 3D scanning.

3D scanning's evolution has seen various techniques, with traditional photogrammetry holding the fort for a considerable time. This method's ability to capture comprehensive photos of objects from multiple vantage points and deploy algorithms has always been instrumental in producing intricate 3D models, celebrating both detail and vibrant coloration. It has always been a favored approach for capturing the true essence of objects and vistas.

Yet, as with most technological feats, challenges persist. The essence of traditional photogrammetry lies in its intricate computational analysis. KIRI Innovations addresses this by utilizing a cloud-based generating system, ensuring all images undergo processing on dedicated servers, circumventing hardware constraints, and accomplishing the task remotely.

First introduced at WWDC2021, Apple’s Object Capture API has received transformative improvements in the recent past. Previously limited by hardware constraints, this technology has now been optimized to run locally on iPhone Pro models (iPhone 12 Pro and up). This results in the rapid production of photo-real 3D models in a matter of minutes.

With the introduction of KIRI Engine 2.10, iPhone Pro (12 and up), paired with iOS 17, users are granted the freedom to utilize and select between traditional photogrammetry and the cutting-edge Object Capture ability. This enhancement enables the direct and local generation of 3D models on their devices, bypassing the need for server uploads. Paired with the capabilities of LiDAR scanning, users now have a wider selection of methods tailored for their 3D scanning pursuits. Through the integration of the Object Capture API, KIRI Innovations provides this significant leap forward in user convenience and functionality at no additional cost.
